Alstom-led consortium to refurbish Brazilian hydropower plant
Alstom, in consortium with Orteng and Camargo Correa, has secured a contract from Companhia Energetica de Minas Gerais (Cemig) to refurbish the Sao Simao hydropower plant on the Paranaiba river in Brazil.
The refurbishment project will be completed by 2018 and the consortium will refurbish the generation and transmission equipment.
Alstom will be responsible for the refurbishment of turbines, speed governors and generators, and replacement of the excitation system.
The France-based company will also achieve supervision, commissioning and supply of the transformer and instrumentation.
Orteng will be responsible for engineering, integration and supply of auxiliary electrical equipment, as well as supervision and commissioning, while Camargo Correa will revamp hydro-mechanical equipment as well as dismounting and erection.
The Sao Simao power plant, which began operations in 1978, includes six generating units with a total capacity of 1,710MW.
