EBR Staff Writer Published 01 February 2012

Alstom has received a contract worth over EUR20m from Chinese engineering firm Sinohydro Corporation to supply key engineering equipment for the new Itezhi-Tezhi hydroelectric dam in Zambia.

The hydropower station will have a generating capacity of 120MW and will be constructed on the Kafue river in central Zambia.

Alstom will deliver two 60MW Kaplan turbine and generator units and other equipment including the main inlet valve, governing and exciting system.

The company, as subcontractor for Sinohydro, will also be responsible for supervising site installation and commissioning.

Itezhi-Tehzi Power Corporation, a joint venture consisting of Indian business group Tata and the state-owned Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation, awarded the contract for the entire project to Sinohydro on a turnkey basis and the hydropower station will be completed in 2015.
