GVK Group unit to increase hydro project capacity in India

EBR Staff Writer Published 31 January 2012

GVK Group company unit Ratle Hydro Electric Project Private Limited has received an approval to increase the capacity of its hydro electric project power which is being constructed in Jammu and Kashmir, India.

The company received an approval from the Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF) to increase the project capacity from 690MW to 850MW.

The project located on Chenab River is expected to commence operations in the year 2017.

Furthermore, it will provide 16% of its output to the state of Jammu and Kashmir free of any charge, reports economictimes.com.

The MOEF was earlier informed by GVK that the necessity of revision of installed capacity was mainly due to the revised water flow series approved by Central Water Commission.
