Hidroelectrica To Begin Construction Of Islaz Hydropower Plant By 2010

Published: 27-Nov-2009

S.C. Hidroelectrica S.A. (Hidroelectrica) intends to begin the tender and the actual construction of the Islaz hydropower plant in 2010, curierulnational.ro reported. The Islaz plant will have an installed capacity of 28 MW and will be constructed in Islaz, Romania. The project will involve an investment of over EUR300 million.

"Next year we want to start works on the construction of the Islaz hydropower plant. The plant will be on the Lower Olt and will have four reversible groups. Its construction could take four years. In spring we will start the auction. This project could cost about 316 million euros," said General Manager of Hidroelectrica, Mihai David.

"I do not want it to be delayed more than a week from now," said the Prime Minister in office.

"Until the auction we have two big problems: the approvals for spatial planning from the Olt County Council, because from Teleorman we have had them for long, and the approvals from the Ministry of Environment", David complained then. He said that it takes a lot of time to get an environmental permit.
