Construction of Northern Pass transmission project to begin in 2014

EBR Staff Writer Published 09 August 2011

Construction at the Northern Pass transmission project, which will carry hydro power from Canada to New England in the US, will now start in 2014 and be complete in 2016.

Earlier, work at the project was expected to start in 2013 and be complete by 2015, which is now delayed by a year.

Northern Pass said it will locate the line within existing rights of way, as much as possible and to minimize potential impacts for residents and communities, following strong opposition from North Country residents.

Northern Pass is expected to announce a new preferred route for the area north of Groveton later this year.

The US Department of Energy has invited public consultation on the project for 45 days.
