SJVN starts Rampur hydro power project units operations in India

SJVN has commenced commercial operations at unit1, 2 and 5 of 412MW Rampur hydro power project located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

According to the company, the power plant has a total of six units, each with a generation capacity of 68.66MW.

Expected to generate 1,770 million units of electricity per year, the complete project will be commissioned by June 2014.

The state is set to purchase 30% of the electricity generated by the hydro power plant and will get an additional 12% at free of cost.

SJVN said the remaining electricity will be supplied to other parts of the northern region including Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and Delhi.

The estimated cost of the project, which received funding support from the World Bank, is INR20.47bn.
